Game Night to Music Night This Summer

Summer is such a great time to try something new as a family. During the school year, life feels rushed with homework, sports, and busy schedules, but summer gives families a chance to slow down just enough to make memories together. One of my favorite ideas? Turning “game night” into “music night!”
Imagine this… one family member grabs a guitar, another sits at the piano, someone picks up a ukulele, and suddenly the whole family is singing along to “Sweet Home Alabama.” Did you know that the song uses only THREE chords? You could literally be jamming and singing together by the end of just one lesson. Music doesn’t have to be complicated to be fun — it just has to be shared.
At Leading Note Studios, we love encouraging families to learn together. Summer is the perfect time to add a second instrument, try voice lessons, or jump into one of our fun group classes like Guitar Class, Rock/Pop Vocal Group, Musical Theatre or Ukulele. We often see parents start lessons alongside their kids, siblings joining the same class, or families cheering each other on as they learn songs at home. Those moments become memories that last far beyond summer break.
And don’t forget about our youngest musicians, too! Our Toddler Music Classes for ages 18 months to 4 years old are such a fun way to spend extra time together this summer. Moving, grooving, singing songs, shaking instruments, and making music side-by-side with your child creates such sweet memories while also building confidence, rhythm, listening skills, and a love for music at an early age. Sometimes the best part of class is simply watching your little one light up when their favorite song starts playing.
The truth is, we don’t stop learning in the summer — so why stop music? In fact, summer is often when students make HUGE progress because they have a little more time to practice, explore creativity, and enjoy music without the pressure of school schedules. Whether your goal is to learn a few chords around the campfire, sing your favorite songs together, or finally start the instrument you’ve always wanted to play, this is your sign to go for it.
Who knows… your family’s new favorite tradition might not be board games anymore — it might just be music night.
