π Music Lessons Arenβt Scary (Even in October!)
October is full of haunted houses, creepy costumes, and things that go bump in the night. But do you know whatβs not scary? Learning music!
Iβve met so many students over the yearsβkids, teens, and adultsβwho walk into their very first lesson with wide eyes, almost like theyβre peeking into a haunted house. A brand-new instrument can look intimidating: so many strings, keys, buttons, bows, and shiny parts. But hereβs the truth: once you take that first step, you realize music isnβt a monster at all. In fact, itβs one of the friendliest βspiritsβ youβll ever meet. π»
π¦ The βSpookyβ Sounds
Sure, the first squeak of a clarinet might sound like a bat in the attic, and the first off-key note on the violin could rival the soundtrack to a horror movie. But hereβs the magical part: every βspooky soundβ is just proof that youβre learning. Behind every ghostly squeak is the beginning of something beautiful.
π¬ Treats Instead of Tricks
I like to think of learning music like trick-or-treating. Every time you practiceβeven for a few minutesβyou add another little candy to your bucket. First note? Thatβs a mini Snickers. Playing a whole song? Thatβs a full-size Reeseβs. Before you know it, youβve built a bag full of musical treats to enjoy for a lifetime.
πΆ Costumes Optional, Courage Required
This Halloween season, remember that you donβt need a cape or a witchβs hat to be braveβyou just need the courage to try. Music isnβt about being perfect the first time. Itβs about having fun, making noise, and discovering your own rhythm (spooky or not).
πΈοΈ My October Wish for You
As the leaves crunch under your feet and pumpkins start glowing on porches, I hope you remember: music isnβt something to fear. Itβs something to celebrate. Whether youβre just beginning or returning after years away, the scariest part is only the first step. After that, itβs all treats, no tricks. π
Happy Halloween,
Camille Hastings
